Early alert ran as a red-flag network: faculty report a problem, the system sends a warning. I argued for a version grounded in appreciative advising, where a flagged student is invited into a Success Consultation instead. Pass rates and term persistence followed.
Waiting on faculty referrals is a bottleneck. Advisors already hold the signals — credit load, holds, a missing registration — and at a 300:1 caseload they can triage them across tiers of need rather than waiting to be told.
An edited volume reading academic probation as a life transition rather than a label, and then the corollary: advisors who are not supported cannot support anyone. Appreciative onboarding, a career ladder, psychological safety, and no toxic positivity.

Eleven national conference presentations, including pre-conference workshops at NASPA and the Annual Conference on the First-Year Experience. I proposed and convened USC's inaugural Institute on Advising Leadership and Innovation, a three-day national gathering that drew directors, deans, assistant provosts, and vice provosts from 19 institutions.
